Goodwin College | top
Goodwin College, a non-profit educational institution, was granted accreditation in 2004 by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. As the fastest-growing institution of its size in Connecticut, Goodwin College strives to meet the needs of the marketplace and the citizens of Connecticut by offering 22 associate degree and collegiate certificate programs that focus on critical fields of study. Courses are taught in areas that include healthcare, human services, youth education, business, technology, customer service, homeland security, and English as a second language.

Many of the academic programs deliver invaluable learning opportunities to students through hands-on experience in internships at a variety of venues, such as hospitals, sleep labs, fire departments, ambulance service organizations, physicians’ offices, private security firms, and schools. Goodwin College quickly develops new academic programs in order to provide education in areas that may not otherwise be available to students in our region. For example, Goodwin College currently offers the only associate degree program in Homeland Security in Connecticut. Furthermore, Goodwin College’s Histotechnician Program is the only accredited program offering histotechnician instruction in New England.

Goodwin College prides itself on teaching practical skills to a diverse population of non-traditional students. The average age of a Goodwin College student is 32 years old. Goodwin College designs its classes and their meeting times to fit the schedule of working adults, many of whom also have families to support. Currently, more than 1,500 students are enrolled in courses for the fall 2006 semester. More than 260 students, including over 120 nursing students, received degrees and certificates at Goodwin College’s graduation ceremony held in June 2006.

Goodwin College recently unveiled plans to build a new $75 million riverfront campus on 700 acres between Route 2 and the Connecticut River in East Hartford. With this expansion, the college will gain the ability to provide additional learning opportunities to Connecticut and Massachusetts residents, increase the number of open placements in its programs for new students, and meet the needs of the region’s employers by providing a skilled workforce for high-demand jobs.
