Celebrated Author and Jewish Advocate Talia Carner to Share New Novel The Boy with the Star Tattoo at Mandell JCC: An Evening of Resilience, Heritage, and Storytelling

WEST HARTFORD, CT — On Tuesday, November 19, at 7:00 PM, the Mandell Jewish Community Center will host internationally acclaimed author Talia Carner as she presents her latest novel, The Boy with the Star Tattoo. Known for her powerful narratives and fearless approach to challenging subjects, Carner will take the stage for an evening of storytelling, courage, and discussion.

Talia Carner is celebrated for her groundbreaking works, including The Third Daughter, Hotel Moscow, and Jerusalem Maiden, which explore complex histories and highlight the resilience of the Jewish people. With The Boy with the Star Tattoo, Carner tells a gripping story that spans post-war France and the daring escape of Israeli boats in Cherbourg in 1969, drawing readers into a tale of heroism, identity, and survival. This novel has garnered significant media attention and acclaim, spotlighting the courage of Israeli agents who helped hidden Jewish orphans after WWII.

Beyond her compelling writing, Carner has faced recent challenges as an outspoken Jewish and Zionist author, becoming the target of an organized review-bombing campaigns on GoodReads. Her resilience against such attacks and dedication to promoting Jewish voices earned her recognition among the Top 100 People Positively Influencing Jewish Life in 2023 by the Algemeiner newspaper. “Talia Carner represents not just the Jewish community but the resilience and strength of all those who stand against hate and for truth,” said David Jacobs, President and CEO of the Mandell JCC. “We are honored to have her with us.”

Despite these obstacles, Carner’s fans and supporters continue to rally behind her, as reflected in the packed venues of her ongoing U.S. book tour. Carner’s appearance at the Mandell JCC is expected to be both an engaging literary experience and an opportunity for the community to come together in celebration of Jewish heritage, strength, and storytelling.
