A noted employee benefits lawyer, author, and speaker, McGarrity represents Fortune 500 companies and other public and private entities, including those in the hospitality, health care, and higher education sectors, throughout the United States. As a leader within the firm, McGarrity is Chair of the Associate & Counsel Benefits Committee and Vice-Chair of the Diversity, Equity + Inclusion (DEI) Committee. In her practice, she counsels clients on complex benefits matters involving retirement plans, welfare plans, and other employee benefit programs. She also plays a key role in M&A transactions, providing sophisticated benefits advice during negotiations as well as post-closing integration. McGarrity assists clients in defending and responding to audits conducted by the Internal Revenue Service, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, the United States Department of Labor, and various state agencies. McGarrity is the Past President of the Connecticut Hispanic Bar Association (CHBA) and during her tenure the CHBA gained national recognition by the Hispanic National Bar Association. She previously received the CHBA’s Recognition Award honoring her years of leadership within the Connecticut Hispanic legal profession and has received multiple awards and honors in recognition of both her outstanding contributions to DEI in the legal profession and her pro bono work.
McGarrity was recently listed in the 2023 The Best Lawyers in America© as Hartford Lawyer of the Year in the area of Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law and received the same distinction in 2021. She was recognized by the National Law Review as a “Go-To Thought Leader” in 2021 and has been included in the in the Connecticut Super Lawyers list since 2013.
