EMPOWERING FUTURES: Celebrating our 5th Year Anniversary

A Discussion on the Future of STEM with parents, educators, school administrators, and legislators, hosted by MakerspaceCT, Hartford, CT

Hartford, CT, March 8, 2024 — MakerspaceCT is excited to announce "Empowering Futures: Celebrating our 5th Year Anniversary," a special breakfast and panel discussion event scheduled for Friday, April 19th, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. This event will bring our community together for a conversation on the future of STEM education and marks MakerspaceCT's five years of contributions to the community.As MakerspaceCT reaches this significant milestone, the organization invites parents, educators, school administrators, manufacturers, nonprofits  and legislators to participate in an engaging dialogue surrounding the pivotal role of STEM education in shaping the future of our youth.The event will address pressing questions such as:

  • How do we collaborate to create cohesive STEM opportunities?
  • What can educators do to ignite passion for STEM in our students?
  • Where do avenues exist to further pursue STEM education?
  • Why are coordinated, educational STEM opportunities important?

Devra Sisitsky, Executive Director of MakerspaceCT states, "Empowering Futures highlights the importance of statewide collaboration efforts in shaping the future of STEM education and preparing our workforce for tomorrow.”To kick off the event, Chris DiPentima, President and CEO of CBIA will provide opening remarks and Cole Grosner, Director of Education at MakerspaceCT will discuss the STEM education philosophy behind the programs at MakerspaceCT.The panel discussion, moderated by Joel Hicks-Rivera, Senior Community Impact Officer for the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, will include the following participants:

  • Matt Fleury, President & CEO of the Connecticut Science Center
  • Nailah Abdul-Rahman, Director of Student 5.0 at ReadyCT
  • Will Cheney, STEM Instructional Specialist at Hartford Public Schools
  • Enrique Juncadella, Director of Workforce Solutions Collaborative of Metro Hartford
  • Dammein Hurdle, Parent and Aerospace Systems Engineer at Pratt and Whitney

The panel will explore various topics, including:

  • the gamification of STEM learning
  • coordination of services for students
  • parental perspectives on nurturing STEM education
  • the support mechanisms needed within educational institutions.
