Liberty Bank Foundation Grants $25,000 for Red Cross Humanitarian Assistance for the People of Ukraine

(Middletown, CT. April 20, 2022) — David W. Glidden, President & CEO of Middletown-based Liberty Bank, today announced the Liberty Bank Foundation approved a $25,000 grant dedicated to the American Red Cross of Connecticut to help bolster humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine being coordinated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The grant will support ICRC in providing lifesaving aid to those in need. This includes distributing the most vital humanitarian needs such as food, shelter, critical care items and first aid.According to the American Red Cross, more than 10 million people have been displaced by this conflict, more than four million of whom have fled Ukraine to nearby countries. An estimated 18 million — a third of the country’s population — will need humanitarian assistance.“The images of Ukrainians – from newborns to the elderly – displaced in their country or fleeing Ukraine altogether are heartbreaking. They are sharing unimaginable stories as they escape violence in the hopes of finding shelter, food and safety – and the number of refugees leaving Ukraine grows day-by-day,” said David W. Glidden, President & CEO of Liberty Bank.Glidden added, “While the United States and our allies are providing direct aid to at-risk families, as responsible corporate citizens we cannot let our respective governments do it alone. It is incumbent on public and private organizations – who have the ability to do so – to be community kind and do their part to turn Ukrainian’s stories of desperation and despair into stories of hope and humanity.”About Liberty BankEstablished in 1825, Liberty Bank is one of the oldest and largest mutual banks in the country.
