Vintage Car Event Features Rare Connecticut Made Cars AND Raises Money for Children
The 30th annual Vintage Motorcar event is on Saturday, June 18, on the Klingberg campus in New Britain. There will be a full range of 150+ antique automobiles and other vehicles ranging from the late 1800s to 1989.Rarely Seen Cars: Over 95 pre-war (pre-1942) vehicles have already committed to attend the Concours d’Elegance, and 20 of them are cars that were manufactured right here in Connecticut. Names like Pope-Hartford, Trumbull, Locomobile, and Kelsey will be on display.Antique Bicycles: In addition to highlighting rare Connecticut-made cars, a collection of more than a dozen CT-made antique bicycles from the 1800s, Columbias and Keatings, will also be on display provided by the CT Wheelmen, a group of antique bicycle collectors and riders.Antique Trucks: Antique trucks will also gather, including a Ford Model T dump truck and an oil delivery truck. A 1924 Chevrolet promotional truck with a cottage for a body and a Chevrolet Connecticut State Police emergency truck will also be on hand. The two largest vehicles at the event are a 1924 Advance-Rumely tractor and a 1930 American LaFrance Fire Truck retired from the Hartford Fire Department.Family Activities: Spectators will be parking at Slade Middle School and will board Dattco buses to ride a short distance to the Klingberg campus. Returning favorite elements include: Wayne Carini, host of Chasing Classic Cars, as Grand Marshal; trophies awarded throughout the show; dancers performing to vintage music; a variety of activities for children and families; and the Klingberg Children’s Home Museum, the Women of New Britain banners, and New Britain Industrial Museum displays. The Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club, Hartford Chapter, will also be participating in the event. The group was founded in honor of the Buffalo Soldiers black peacetime units. Formed shortly after the Civil War, the Buffalo Soldiers, composed of former slaves, free men, and Black Civil War soldiers, were the first to serve during peacetime. The purpose of the show is to bring awareness and financial support to the 20 vital programs Klingberg offers to help children and families who have been negatively affected by all sorts of trauma. Klingberg is grateful for all the car owners, business sponsors, individual donors, spectators, and volunteers who have supported us over the past 30 years of the Motorcar Events. For more information and updates about the event, visit KlingbergMotorcarSeries.org.
