Chrysalis Center Invites the Community to “Come Together to End Hunger”
at this year’s Virtual Empty Bowls Event on March 30th

Hartford– Chrysalis Center invites the community to “Come Together to End Hunger” at this year’s Empty Bowls event to be held virtually on Wednesday, March 30th. This annual event, which raises much needed awareness around food insecurities in our community, will be held virtually, with guests receiving a private link to the event. Guests will enjoy delicious homemade soup, provided by La Cocina Catering, which will be available for pick up prior to event.

Event proceeds will benefit the organization’s “Food Hub”: programs which address the critical issue of food insecurity and lack of fresh and nutritious foods in the community through innovative and hands-on approaches. Chrysalis’ Food Hub includes: Freshplace food pantry, Urban Roots hydroponic grow center, Homestead Farmers’ Market, Railway Gardens, Food Forest and La Cocina Catering and Culinary Arts Training Kitchen.

Tickets are $20 per person and include a delicious bowl of soup and fresh-baked sourdough roll, all provided by La Cocina Catering, Chrysalis Center’s social enterprise program which trains individuals in the culinary arts field to help them secure a job and become economically independent. Three varieties of soup will be available (including a vegetarian and vegan option) for pick up prior to the event at Chrysalis Center’s outdoor patio, located at 255 Homestead Avenue in Hartford, CT. Also included in the ticket price is a handcrafted bowl, created by a local artist, which serves as a reminder of the many empty bowls in our community and throughout the world.

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots initiative focused on combating hunger. Chrysalis Center supports the initiative by bringing awareness to the issue of hunger facing our neighbors throughout the state, particularly those living in the “Promise Zone”, the federally recognized neighborhoods in Greater Hartford where nearly 50% of the residents live at or below the poverty line.

Tickets can be purchased online at https://emptybowls2022.eventbrite.com or by calling (860) 263-4418. Sponsorship opportunities available and help support Chrysalis Center’s Food Hub. Please contact Sarah Mitchell at smitchell@chrysaliscenterct.org for more information.
