WETHERSFIELD, CT – Aug. 25, 2020 – The annual Johnson Brunetti 5K and Kids Fun Run for Hartford’s Camp Courant needed to jump over some hurdles this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the runners and sponsors came through once again via a virtual event that raised approximately $40,000 for to continue the mission of the 126-year-old camp, the largest free summer day camp in the nation.

“We faced the challenges of the pandemic together and the results were phenomenal!  Our determined runner and walkers, committed sponsors and dedicated staff and board of directors all stepped up to continue this major fundraising effort on behalf of Hartford’s children,” said Jessica Pierson, director of community engagement of Hartford’s Camp Courant.  “As a result, we were able to offer hands-on activities designed to teach problem-solving, provide educational tools to help bridge the summer learning gap and bring fun and games for our kids in their homes, neighborhoods, and parks.”

“Runners don’t quit, and neither do we in our commitment to providing Hartford children with a wonderful summer experience,” said Joel Johnson, CFP®, managing partner of Johnson Brunetti Retirement & Investment Specialists, sponsors of the 5K for Hartford’s Camp Courant for the third consecutive year.  “We applaud the efforts of everyone associated with Camp Courant who created a virtual experience that made participation in this event enjoyable and successful.”

This year’s virtual 5K and Kids Fun Run invited participants to run or walk between June 22-July 4.  People were encouraged to run or walk by themselves or in small groups to adhere to social distancing practices.  Those who completed the race submitted their race times through the Hartford Marathon Foundation platform.  Prizes were awarded to the three best overall male and female, most enthusiastic participant, as well as the participant living furthest from Connecticut.

A total of 162 runners and walkers participated, including people from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado, California, Puerto Rico, Ontario, Canada, and London, England.
