January 3, 2024 | Murtha Cullina is pleased to announce the promotions of two of our lawyers. Lorey Rives Leddy, a member of the Litigation and Appellate practices, has been promoted to partner. Emily McDonough Souza, an attorney in the firm’s Labor & Employment and Litigation practices, has been promoted to counsel. The two promotions were effective as of January 1, 2024.

Lorey Rives Leddy (Hartford, CT) has over 30 years of trial and appellate experience representing corporate, municipal and individual clients in a variety of matters in both state and federal courts in Connecticut and New York, including general commercial disputes, creditor’s rights cases, complex contract matters, construction cases, patent and trademark litigation, employment defense, and trusts and estates litigation. Her extensive trial experience includes conducting and second-chairing dozens of bench and jury trials, as well as arbitrations and mediations in all of these practice areas. She has represented municipalities in various disputes, and she has handled administrative appeals for corporate clients.  She has also written numerous successful pre-trial motions and appellate briefs.

Emily McDonough Souza (New Haven, CT) investigates, evaluates, and litigates employment-related disputes in state and federal courts, appearing before the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Connecticut Department of Labor. She represents clients across a broad spectrum of industries including health care, education, technology, retail, financial services, transportation services and manufacturing. Her practice involves defending employers in claims concerning discrimination and retaliation, contractual disputes and wage and hour violations, and she regularly counsels clients on matters that include discrimination avoidance, disability and pregnancy accommodation, FMLA and restrictive covenants.
