The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities has released recommendations to address the crisis of disconnected youth in Connecticut. OPP strongly encourages the adoption and implementation of the 119K Commission’s Young People First plan to address Connecticut’s Statewide crisis.

The Plan includes the following recommendations as strategic pillars to address the crisis:

  • Coordinate supports for youth at all levels of the system
  • Create stronger conditions for youth success within and beyond school
  • Increase capacity in the system, and
  • Build and sustain coalitions

The tactics and strategies laid out in the recommendations address policy, funding, education, workforce, and the social sector. This focused effort across multiple systems will make an impact. The report can be viewed at https://bit.ly/119KYoungPeopleFirst

OPP CEO and President Hector Rivera shared “These recommendations echo and validate the work organizations like OPP have done for years. To have resounding support for the work we are committed to is critical to mitigate this clear and present crisis. We must work together to respond to young people with solutions.”

OPP has been a staunch advocate working with disconnected youth for decades. It is gratifying to see this important work prioritized as we join together to address this continuing crisis.
