Village receives $210,000 for child development and family stability services
Hartford, Conn. Hundreds of families who live in Hartford’s Asylum Hill Neighborhood and surrounding communities will be provided with lifechanging support to build firm foundations for their futures thanks to a $210,000 grant from The Hartford.
Funding will help families boost their financial wellbeing, increase job readiness, and support parents through education in early literacy and other factors that are critical to children’s healthy development. The grant also supports an Emergency Assistance Fund that provides relief for Asylum Hill families in crisis, ensuring they stay safe, housed and fed.
The grant will also provide support for intervention, therapeutic and educational programs for women and girls who have experienced trauma as part of The Village’s Annual Girl Within event, as well as a holiday giving initiative that helps nearly 2,000 children and adults in need.
“The Hartford has been a steadfast partner to The Village and the hundreds of families we serve for more than 30 years. We are so grateful for their support and to know that we have neighbors in Asylum Hill who are invested in the success and safety of families in the community and across Greater Hartford,” said Village President & CEO Galo Rodriguez.
Over many years, employees of The Hartford have donated countless hours of volunteer time to The Village, most recently helping with two gardening projects and preparing backpacks filled with new school supplies for local students whose families are facing the brunt of inflation.
Around the corner from The Hartford’s home office in Asylum Hill, The Village’s sites on Spring Street and Church Street are home to an array of services including an Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC), Words Count literacy program, Financial Opportunity Center, reunification services, and more. These programs also serve as steppingstones for families to access other Village services such as mental health and addiction treatment, school-based supports and the Emergency Assistance Fund.
