New Saturday hours added to address demand for urgent mental health care
Hartford, Conn. The Village for Families & Children’s walk-in, youth mental health Urgent Crisis Center (UCC) in Hartford is extending its hours of operation to meet an increased need for immediate mental health support for children and teens.
Effective October 19, The Village’s UCC—located at 1680 Albany Avenue in Hartford—will be open on Saturdays from 3:00-11:00pm in addition to its existing schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00am-11:00pm.
“We’re very glad to be able to open our UCC for an additional day so youth can access support in their time of need,” said Village President & CEO Hector Glynn. “As more families learn about this new level of care, they’re turning to the UCC so that their child gets the help they need right away.”
Established to address the children’s mental health crisis in Connecticut, the UCC provides immediate support to youth who are experiencing challenges with anxiety and depression, feelings of hopelessness, out of control behaviors, thoughts of self-injury or suicide, substance use and more. No appointment is required, and no family is denied services based on their ability to pay.
“A mental health challenge can look different for every child,” Glynn said. “If you’re not sure where to turn for your child or need to be seen right away, come and see us at The Village UCC.”
The UCC staff is comprised of multiple specialists who can tailor services to meet youth’s unique needs, including nurses, clinicians, family navigators, behavioral support specialists and discharge planners. The UCC will help youth stabilize, complete a thorough evaluation, connect to counseling or other support as needed and create a safety plan for caregivers. Learn more at thevillage.org/ucc.
